In this video, we're diving into the 2024 edition of our Homegrown Chinook Hops Harvest Ale! Every year, I take the hops I grow in my backyard and craft a unique Harvest Ale to showcase the season's flavors. This year, we're doing things a little differently by brewing a one-gallon pilot batch to see if the Chinook hops are up to the task for a larger five-gallon brew. We'll walk you through the recipe, covering the grain bill, hop additions, and yeast choices, and then taste-test this small batch to see if it’s ready for prime time. Expect classic American hop aromas with notes of citrus and a clean, slightly spicy bitterness. This one's got a nostalgic twist, perfect for a Thanksgiving pre-dinner drink or a casual backyard hang with friends and family. Thinking of making your own Harvest Ale? Follow along for ideas and inspiration, and don’t forget to share your own harvest brew experiences in the comments! Cheers to fresh hops and seasonal brews! 🍻 Recipe Details: Grain Bill: 91% Bohemian Pilsner Malt, 4.5% Best Red X, 4.5% Carapils Hops: 1 oz homegrown Chinook (60 min), 2 oz homegrown Chinook (10 min whirlpool at 180°F) Yeast: Lallemand Verdant IPA Mash Temp: 150°F (66°C) ABV: 5% Like this video?
