Iona Circumnavigation Solo Trip ... A Brilliant afternoon out !! Plan: Launch from Fidden and Circumnavigate the Island of Iona clockwise, taking in some of the Southern Reefs and capturing action camera and drone footage along the way. This would also would include aerial footage of Iona Abbey and "The Village: Launching around mid afternoon from the idyllic Fidden Campsite on the West end of the Ross of Mull to blue skies and perfect conditions, it was only a short time before I'd made the crossing to Iona, I then headed south along the coastline and enjoying any active conditions along the way. I passed the near the old marble quarry ruins and continued south to the outlying reefs as there seemed to be more movement further out. Travelling through these southern reefs I turned westward to Iona's SW corner, through further reefs to proceed up theWest side. I wasn't long before I encountered 2 other kayakers who'd identified my voice from my YouTube channel (sorry guys I can't remember you names but nice to meet you). Since posting the video they both contacted me, thanks guys, Mathew Hart said hello 1st and Tim Tim Eastbrook was the one who recognised my voice. We chatted a while and headed off in opposite directions as I headed further North. Around a quarter of a mile further on I caught a glimpse of a blowhole and played around there for a wee while taking video. Moving further North I headed straight across the long sandy bay with the Golf course behind. More outlying reefs and channels to explore and enjoy along the way, I pressed on until the coastline started to head NE passing more beautiful scenery and passing inside Eilean Chalbha and along the NW beaches until I landed on the fabulous beach on the Islands Northern point. I flew the drone capturing images of the NE coastline down to Iona Abbey and The Village & returned to the beach. Launching I continued South, down the sound passing the Abbey, Village gardens and Ferry slipway, where a short while after I took advantage of the slight South going Ebb stream to cross the sound arriving back at the point of Eilean nam Bo, the Northern reef protecting Fidden Bay (Slugan Dubh) my launch piont. Landing back at the campsite after just under 12 miles a leisurely and very enjoyable journey taking me just under 4hrs. A stunning trip each time I've don it, but I must say today was just magnificent with blue skies and perfect conditions This is a trip I can highly recommend any confident Sea Kayaker ...
