Horace R. Holmes, Jr. of Washington, DC, passed away peacefully on December 3, 2023, he was 66 years old. Born and raised in Washington, DC, close friends and family call him “Chico”. Horace was a beloved and devoted Father and Husband, a talented journalist and communicator, a man of unwavering faith and strong supporter of many community organizations in DC. Horace is survived by his spouse, Liliana Henao Holmes, children Emilio and Eliana, sister and brother-in-law Cheryl D. Holmes Miller and Phillip M. Miller, niece Gabrielle N. Miller, nephew Aaron P. Miller, father-in-law and mother-in law Jorge and Elia Henao, sister-in-law and brother-in-law Brennan and Zoraya Bajdek, brother-in law and sister-in-law Jorge and Leah Henao, nephew Wesley Henao, and cousins Tammy Holmes Lowry, Michael Holmes, Deborah Beard, Mark Sabino, Elizabeth Sabino, and Joseph Sabino. He was preceded in death by his mother, Norma S. Holmes Weston and father, Horace R. Holmes Sr. Professionally, Horace had an illustrious career as a Broadcast Journalist. He served at WJLA TV as a co-anchor of the weekend and morning news, weekday general assignment reporter and member of the 7 On Your Side Team. Before joining WJLA, he anchored the Morning Show for WMAR-TV in Baltimore. Horace received several awards for his journalism, including seven Emmy Awards. He is a beloved friend, colleague and mentor, and touched many lives with his wisdom, guidance, empathy, sense of humor and joy for life. Horace was an active member of Northwest Community Church in DC, where he found joy, hope and support in his faith.
