Filmed in controlled safe conditions.... Here we are having a look at PWM and a solid state relay. Unlike an inductive contactor the solid state relay can switch at higher speeds by semiconductor operation using PWM input. Using a trigger input from the PWM the relay can operate to a duty cycle arrangement controlling the output energy without changing the applied source voltage. I also demostrate the destructive operation if PWM was applied to an inductive coil contactor and why they cannot operate in the same way as a solid state relay. These power transistors are widely used to control energy management in VAV or duct with electric reheat systems. They work very well with purely resistive circuits such as heater banks.
