Scrapped Comeng Carriages at Laverton North

In this video: we visited InfraBuild Recycling in Laverton North to see the remains of withdrawn Comeng suburban electric carriages which have now been scrapped. The Comeng Trains withdrawal began in August 2021, with the first train being scrapped in Newport Workshops, then being transferred to a site in Dandenong South. The first Comeng was sent to InfraBuild Recycling for scrapping in March 2022. Within months, more of these trains would be sent here to be scrapped and melted down into steel. Since their retirement from service, these trains were transferred from Newport Workshops to McIntyre for stripping, with others being transferred to Bendigo North Workshops to be cut in half, then transported by truck to Laverton North for scrapping.
