Say that 5 times really fast :p NS 8025, the Monongahela Heritage unit, is one of Norfolk Southern's 30th Anniversary Heritage Units. 8025 is leading loaded coal train #734 south, which is fitting because the Monongahela Railroad's primary commodity was coal. The Monongahela Railroad (MGA) was formed in 1901 by the Pennsylvania Railroad and the Pittsburgh & Lake Erie RR. The railroad's purpose was to haul coal out of Pennsylvania and West Virginia for use by steel mills in the north. The MGA never operated more than a few hundred miles of railroad track, but the route was, and still is, an important and profitable line. Conrail absorbed the Monongahela RR in 1993, and when Conrail was split between CSX and NS in the late 1990s, NS inherited the former MGA route. Norfolk Southern painted this unit into MGA livery in 2012 as a part of their 30th Anniversary Heritage Unit collection. Filmed 2020-12-26 Thank you for watching! ©ICE6365
