UP 4014: The Race Across the Midwest

Celebrating the 150th Anniversary of the completion of the transcontinental railroad, Union Pacific operated its newly restored Big Boy, number 4014, on a number of tours across the system between May and November, 2019. In July, the locomotive participated in the great race across the midwest, departing Cheyenne, WY for stops in Nebraska, Iowa, Minnesota, Wisconsin and Illinois. Our journey follows the train from North Platte, NE to Mason City, IA through the lush farmlands and rolling hills of the midwest, joining up once again with the train as it departs the bustlings suburbs of Chicago on its return to its home base in Cheyenne.
