Carnival of Souls has arrived!

Carnival of Souls – Hallucinations, plain and simple. Much like anything traumatic that happens I think our brains try to relate to something that we understand to make sense of everything that is going on. For me that is a carnival…for whatever reason I don't know…but it's a carnival. I wish I could remember the two weeks I lost during this time. My thoughts are that the opioids were really messing me up. Not quite sure if I needed them or if this was simply to administer them so they could charge my insurance. ‘Never My Last’ is my solo project, emerging from the fog of ICU sedation, pharmaceutical fentanyl dreams, the grip of prescription drug abuse, and the long walk back from the brink of wanting to end it all. This music is what came after thinking death was the only way out. “These songs aren’t for everyone. They span dark country, rock opera, and doom metal. Genres that let me process what I’ve lived through and what I’m still living with. My goal was simple: Capture those experiences as genuine as possible, in hopes it helps someone else out of a bad situation. For instance, ‘Reaper Wears a Paper Gown’ is about one of many sleepless nights in ICU thinking it was time to die and the reaper would be dressed in a paper gown to collect me. The deeper I went into this project and opened those memories I started to see how much it was helping just to talk about it. The music just became the vessel to tell that story. – J.J.
