Argh, French Broom! In this video, LandPaths' staff, including our Stewardship, Youth, New Audiences, and Support team members, talk about why we spend so much time pulling broom by hand at preserves in Sonoma County managed by LandPaths. An invasive plant that was brought across the ocean as a horticultural plant, French Broom grows fast and dense.. If left to its own devices, this prolific seeder overshadows native plants in the forest. And it acts as a fuel ladder to allow wildfire to reach into the tree canopies, which can be disastrous. The best time to pull broom is before the next wildfire season. Come on out and join us for volunteer stewardship days focused on pulling French Broom in March and April 2023!
