Exploring the Lost Scarborough & Whitby Railway | Abandoned Line Through Yorkshire’s Coast Join me as I explore the remains of the Scarborough and Whitby Railway, a once-scenic coastal route that ran between two of Yorkshire’s most iconic seaside towns. Opened in 1885, this line offered stunning views over cliffs and bays, winding through places like Scalby, Cloughton, Robin Hood's Bay, and Hawsker, before reaching Whitby West Cliff. Despite its beauty, the line was plagued by steep gradients and low passenger numbers—leading to its closure in 1965 under the Beeching cuts. Today, parts of the trackbed live on as the Cinder Track, a popular walking and cycling route. In this video, we’ll uncover: Forgotten stations and platforms Old railway bridges and tunnels What remains of the line today The history behind its rise and fall Previously released on the Trekking Exploration YouTube Channel If you love abandoned railways, UK transport history, or scenic urban exploration, this is one you won’t want to miss. 📸 Don’t forget to like, comment, and subscribe for more hidden railway history across the UK! #ScarboroughToWhitby #AbandonedRailway #BeechingCuts #CinderTrack #RailwayExploration #YorkshireHistory Some music by Scott Buckley - released under CC-BY 4.0. www.scottbuckley.com.au
