Opened in 1885, this line offered stunning views over cliffs and bays, winding through places like Scalby, Cloughton, Robin Hood's Bay, and Hawsker, before reaching Whitby West Cliff. Despite its beauty, the line was plagued by steep gradients and low passenger numbers—leading to its closure in 1965 under the Beeching cuts. Today, parts of the trackbed live on as the Cinder Track, a popular walking and cycling route.
