A Feast of Friends was recorded between late 1977 and early 1978. The spoken word vocals were presumably taken from the December 8th 1970 session in which Jim was still alive. The remaining members recorded a cover of Albinoni’s Adagio in G Minor, a classic piece that Jim liked very much and they had previously recorded during the Waiting for the Sun sessions. This song worked perfectly with Jim’s words. For this song Ray played a Clavinet with a tremolo on and a Fender Rhodes electric piano with a slight phaser effect on. I also recreated the strings for the song which also had a phaser effect on it. The Calvinet part is incredibly easy as it just plays the root notes and later in the song, just the melody. The electric piano part isn’t really tricky either. I was able to get it note for note during the intro but once the strings come in it’s a little hard to hear exactly what the piano plays. I can definitely tell that he’s arpeggiating the chords I just can’t tell what notes exactly.
