The Swatch x Dragonball Z Goku is one of the coolest collaborations Swatch has ever done in my opinion. However, while this is a great collaboration, is the Goku x Swatch an actually good watch? I was a huge Dragonball Z fan growing up, and I’m a huge watch nerd today. It’s a perfect fit. With that being said, I also make watch videos, so I can’t purchase a watch and not review it. The box for each Dragonball Z Swatch is different. The Goku model I purchased came in a box with the same style as the Moonswatch, and honestly, the bright orange on the box really makes it stand out compared to other watch boxes I have. The watch itself is chunky with a 47mm case diameter and 11.75mm of thickness. This makes it wear very large on the wrist. You won’t forget your wearing a watch when you have this on your wrist. The dial is very unique and honestly impressive for a watch in this price point. It features Goku’s Kanji on the dial, and this is actually raised and textured against the smooth, white background. The hour and minute hands are Goku orange while the second-hand keeps a black finish. Speaking of the second hand though, this watch is one of the loudest ticking watches I have ever worn. Now, I normally wouldn’t mention this, but it is actually so loud that when a room falls quiet, it can be heard very clearly so much so it is worth a mention here. Looking past the loud ticking though, the watch features a silicone band that I’ve had no problems wearing all day, and the band itself does feature a double-sided graphic with the outside having Goku’s clothing and the inside having a nimbus cloud. The buckle is aluminum and the looks are double-sided as well with one playing into the clothing look with the Dragonball Z logo on the back and the other having Goku outside and kanji inside. In regards to specs, the Goku x Swatch has a quartz movement, 3 bar of water resistance, and has a plastic case material. This is to be expected for a Swatch at the $135 price point. Overall, this is a truly stunning watch, and for its size, it is wearable for an adult. If you do have a child who thinks this will be cool watch, it’s going to be large. A lot of kids may have trouble wearing it comfortably at all. I know this isn’t being marketed at children, but it is worth mentioning. As a collector’s piece goes though, I think Dragonball Z and Swatch have hit it perfectly. Overall, there are 7 different watches to choose from in this lineup, and I know some collectors who have already purchased them all. This will bring a few more people into Swatch, and it is reasonable to believe that a few of those may move on to products from Swatch's other brands like HAMILTON, OMEGA, and Tissot. That is what Swatch wants out of these collaborations. To hook more people into this watch hobby while providing fun, collectible timepieces along the way.
