Nestled in the shadows of the once thriving industrial metropolis of Youngstown, Ohio, lies Youngstown Steel Heritage. A nonprofit group dedicated to the preservation of Youngstown’s rich steel manufacturing heritage. It’s collection consists of artifacts from steel mills across the eastern seaboard (such as their 1913 Todd stationary steam engine and 1893 Morgan overhead electric crane) and many pieces of railroad equipment. The crown jewel of the collection is J&L steel 58, an 0-4-0 saddle tank built by the Porter locomotive works in 1937 for the Pittsburgh branch of Jones and Laughlin steel. Loving restored by YSH volunteers, number 58 returned to steam in 2019 and has been in service on the organization’s small amount of track ever since. Enjoy the sights and sounds of J&L steel 58, her stable mate number 64 (a 5 ton brookville gas mechanical engine) and the various pieces of equipment the organization has to offer. Filmed off iPhone 6s.
