Winter has us firmly in its grip here in Germany, and as a result, quite a few of us are suffering from snot. But Snot was also a phenomenal band from the late 90s. "Phenomenal" is a word I don't usually use, but in Snot's case, the term is fitting. Founded in the summer of 1994, they landed a record deal in 1996, and their debut album, "Get Some," was released in 1997 and remains their only studio album. The follow-up album was ready in 1998, but singer and band leader Lynn Strait tragically died in a car accident. The follow-up album became a tribute album featuring various artists, but the band broke up after the accident. Why did the band make such a splash out of nowhere? It was due to their then-fresh mix of diverse influences. Listen to the bass break at 1:55 on the cover of "Snot." This thing has a funky groove, but the sound is harsh and distorted. And the whole album is peppered with such wild and daring mixes, making it a modern classic. Check out "Get Some."
