Sanctuary in Manoa; The Manoa Public Library (Journeys of the Mind). The host for this show was Carl Ackerman. The guest was Nicholas Cho. The discussion was: By inviting the Branch Manager of the Manoa Public Library, Nicholas Cho, to our show, we will discover the current purposes of this local library, the services it offers, the space it provides for others and its ability to connect people to the World Wide Web. In the digital age, we need to know the function and purposes of libraries; they do seem to offer the quiet reflective modalities one associates with a type of intellectual sanctuary. In addition through our conversation with Branch Manager Cho, we can get at the motivation of those wonderful people we call librarians. The takeaway was: All in Hawai’i will discover the array of activities offered by their local public library, including its connection with other libraries in Hawai’i and the Continent. Its offer of the World Wide Web seems to offer a wealth of information, besides being the local gathering places for children who like to read, and for non-profit groups. Perhaps we will come away from the discussion realizing that the center of each community in Hawai’i is the public library.
