APPLE, DATE AND RAISINS CHUTNEY / RELISH An Easy-to-make, delicious Apple and Date Chutney which is more like a Relish than a regular Chutney. Made with chopped apples, dates, raisins, vinegar, brown sugar, ginger and cinnamon. This Apple and Date Chutney is a perfect accompaniment to any roast or as a relish with any rice and curry or even with bread or chapattis. Ingredients 2 apples, peeled, cored and cut into small pieces (any variety) 1/2 cup of sweet seedless dates 3 tablespoons raisins or black currants 3 tablespoons brown sugar or castor sugar ½ cup apple cider vinegar or malt vinegar 1 tablespoon chopped fresh ginger or ginger powder 1 teaspoon chopped garlic 2 one-inch pieces of cinnamon 1 teaspoon mild chillie powder 1/2 teaspoon cumin powder 1 tablespoon oil 2 cups of water Salt to taste Method Heat oil in a pan and add the cinnamon, cloves , chopped ginger and garlic. Sauté till the garlic gives out a nice aroma. Now add all the above ingredients and 2 cups of water to the pan and simmer on low heat till the apples are cooked and the chutney forms a jam like consistency. Stir from time to time to prevent it from burning. Cool and store in the fridge till required #applerelish #angloindian #relish
