Student‑led co‑created courses (SLICCs) introduces an experiential, reflective learning and assessment framework that enables students to take ownership of their learning through portfolio‑based assessment. The talk explains how SLICCs function as an “empty course” framework, where students define their learning experiences, align them to shared learning outcomes, and evidence their development through structured reflection. The session explores the drivers behind SLICCs, including employability, graduate attributes, curriculum transformation, and the need to recognise learning that happens beyond the formal curriculum. It highlights how reflection, learning from mistakes, and student agency are central to the approach, and how portfolios allow students to capture complex, authentic learning journeys that traditional assessment often misses. Practical examples demonstrate how SLICCs can be used across disciplines and levels, from undergraduate to professional doctorate, and how the framework scales by providing consistent processes, learning outcomes, and assessment criteria. PebblePad is shown as a key enabler, supporting proposal approval, reflective blogging, evidence collection, formative feedback, and final assessment within a clear, student‑led workflow. The talk concludes by reflecting on scalability, institutional support, and the role of leadership and champions in embedding co‑created, reflective learning at scale. This talk took place at the studio, Birmingham in June 2023.
