John Hunter began his scholarly career working on memory in Renaissance culture, and this has evolved into publications on subjects as diverse as the connections between neuroscience and the humanities, The Lord of the Rings, and machine learning; he is currently researching the effects of digital communication technology (especially smartphones) on how we tell stories on film. John Hunter was raised in Canada and the UK and educated at the University of Toronto and Duke University. He has taught at Bucknell, since the Fall of 2000. He began his scholarly career working on memory in Renaissance culture, and this has evolved into publications on subjects as diverse as the connections between neuroscience and the humanities, The Lord of the Rings, and machine learning; he is currently researching the effects of digital communication technology (especially smartphones) on how we tell stories on film. While at Bucknell, he has co-led study abroad programs in Greece, Turkey and the UK.
