We didn't dig this culvert in. Most people would trench it, but on this job in Rickman, Tennessee, we laid it right on the surface and built up over it. The ground was frozen solid at 19 degrees, conditions were tough, and we had to make audibles on every decision — blade vs. Harley Rake, when to grind, when to just grade and go. This is a real job walkthrough showing how we handle a driveway that needed a culvert for water management but didn't need the expense or disruption of digging one in. We compacted in layers, brought in crush over two-inch base, and crowned the entire surface so water sheds both directions and tires roll instead of dig. Crown is the most durable structure you can put on a gravel driveway, and this project is a perfect example of why. If your gravel driveway has a dip that collects water, a speed bump from compaction, or potholes that keep coming back no matter what you do, this video will show you a different approach. Sometimes the fix isn't more gravel — it's changing how you manage what's already there and where the water goes. Gravel Driveway Recovery Rickman, Tennessee
