Welcome to "Alpona of Bengal," a one-of-a-kind exhibition hosted by the COG India Art Foundation at the Chhobi-o-Ghor Art Gallery, Kolkata. From May 19th to June 4th, 2023, we are celebrating Alpona, a traditional Bengali art form that is sadly nearing extinction. The exhibition showcases the works of renowned Alpona researcher and artist, Bidhan Biswas, who has dedicated his life to collecting and creating Alpona motifs from the farthest corners of Bengal. This beautiful, intricate art form, traditionally painted on floors and walls on auspicious occasions, is a reflection of our rich cultural heritage. But with the onslaught of urbanization, Alpona is fading away. Through this exhibition, we aim to revive and preserve Alpona, ensuring that this vibrant artistic expression continues to be a part of our cultural legacy.
