This is the first video in a series of videos that provides a broad overview of National Airspace System cybersecurity. We define the National Airspace System (NAS) and its components; discuss its modernization through the Next Generation Air Transportation System project (NextGen); discuss NextGen's reliance on information communication technologies using the Internet Protocol (IP); and explain how modern aircraft rely on these technologies. This series of videos is meant to provide an overview of applications of cybersecurity (e.g., maritime, aviation, supply chain, etc.) normally not discussed in information technology or cybersecurity courses, which help broaden students' understanding of how cybersecurity affects these domains, and its importance therein. The intended audiences for these videos include high school, community college, and lower-level university students who are interested in, or participating in, cybersecurity, information technology, or associated programs. Additionally, the first video in a series is broad enough to be understood by a general audience. This video is brought to you by the National Cybersecurity Training and Education Center (NCyTE) through funding from a National Science Foundation Advanced Technological Education Grant (#1902329). 0:00 Video introduction 4:40 What is the National Airspace System? 6:16 Next Generation Air Transportation System 7:26 NAS modernization 11:02 Fly-by-wire flight control systems 12:00 Networks on aircraft 13:32 Video summary
