Tensions between Saudi Arabia and Yemen’s Southern Transitional Council (STC) Forces culminated in late December 2025 with a Saudi air campaign against the STC that restored Muslim Brotherhood–affiliated factions to nominal control, drove out the STC from Mukalla, and resulted in the withdrawal of Emirati advisers. Saudi Arabia subsequently convened a conference to discuss Yemen’s future and resolve the north-south issues that still undermine Yemen’s Internationally Recognized Government. Unknowns persist. What impact do Saudi moves have on the fight against the Houthis? Should the international community abandon or double down on the Presidential Leadership Council?
