Looking back at pictures and videos, this was definitely a top 5 most beautiful day on trail. The moon, sunrise, sunflowers, views, Burgos, and sunset all played a beautiful melody throughout the day and kept me in awe. We set off before sunrise from Ages and soon joined our friend Paul, waiting for us as always at the edge of town, he is such a genuine guy. We watched the full moon dissapear as the sun was rising and the sunflowers shown, bright and yellow as if luminating. We climbed the mountain that overlooked the entire valley dropping into Burgos. It is always so deceiving the city from so far because it took us the whole day to get there. The cross at the summit was beautiful and Rainier from Netherland got a sweet shot of us as we crossed the summit. We descended down the mountain as we passed gravel pits and farm fields, we entered into a small cute town where everyone was stopping for brunch. The sunflowers there were my favorite and as you will see, I overloaded on the pictures and videos there. I actually stepped too far into the patch and got my shoe completely submerged in mud, worth it. We saw our brazilian friends there, as well as met Daniel from France, he was walking with Baptiste our dear French friend. Daniel is a dairy farmer from France and such a kind person, so happy to be there and happy to have a friend. He impacted my camino very much. We continued on with our crew and arrived with Paul and Clare into Burgos early in the afternoon. It was a long greenway and riverwalk and sidewalks to finally get to the center of town, quite a magnificent city, one of the biggest of our camino. So Clare couldn't see our Albergue online and when we arrived to it, it was a little cathedral buried in a bunch of buildings downtown. We walked inside and the hospitalero, Jose Rafael, was in another dimension, he talked to us for over 30 minutes about the existence of mankind and the devil and how he is not of this world, it was very interesting for the first few minutes, then got a little weird. But he was nice and we donated and got our beds. But all the websites say this place had shut down years ago and no longer in business so maybe we did enter another realm, kind of wild to think about. Anyways, it was called the Albergue Santa Marina. We went to the cathedral and the line was so long to get in, we later found it opened right after we got there and it was the free day of the year to get inside! What a blessing! So we took advantage of that! After doing our laundry of course, and showering, first priorities. It was a pretty remarkable cathedral, huge, but also so lucrative and so much treasures and money there, kind of unsettling. They were doing VR tours which seemed kind of cool to go back in time and view from above etc. We met Robert and Clare for dinner, then we wanted to go see the museum but it closed so Mom ended up going back to the Albergue, Clare and I went to the top of the hill to overlook the city and watch sunset, it was very cool. . 14.72 miles 23.70 kilometers 463 feet elevation gain 4 hours 55 minutes .
