What if Joffrey Was a Military Genius Like Robb Stark Discord: / discord YT: / @threeeyedtheorist Voice Acting & Narration: Steven Waters @bobablackfly602 Writers: Myself, @quadeong7453 , & @lordinquisitordunn336 Dunn's Amazon Books: https://www.amazon.com/stores/author/... 9 year old Joffrey looks down at the Syvasse board across from his uncle Jaime. Casually, he moves his dragon into a killing position, then leans back. Joffrey: You lose, uncle. Jaime: Excellent work, nephew. You've learned quick. Joffrey: Why wouldn't I? I had you and uncle Stannis to learn all these tactics from. Jaime pats the boy on the shoulder. Though there was something in Joffrey's eyes, a coldness that no smiles ever touched, Jaime liked playing Syvasse with him. Not just because Joffrey was his son, but because he was a legitimately challenging opponent. Joffrey: Do you think that Grandfather might come to the capital someday? I'd like to play a game with him. Jaime: He's quite a bit better than me, but perhaps you could beat him. Joffrey: Of course I will. There's no other option. At that point, Jaime decides to do something for his son. When on a hunt with Robert, Jaime proposes the idea of Joffrey being warded in Casterly Rock. Robert: You saying I can't raise my son, Kingslayer? Jaime: Your Grace, the boy needs a different kind of ruling experience, you're like me, a warrior, but my father is a politician as well as a warrior. My nephew should have the opportunity to learn from a proven administrator. Robert: All right, I'll send him to the Rock. When Joffrey arrives in the Rock, Tywin sits him down in his solar and tilts his head at his grandson. Joffrey seems unafraid, which Tywin appreciates, but there is something he wants to know about. Tywin: Joffrey, I'm glad that Robert has seen the wisdom in allowing me to take over your education. However, I would like to get your perspective on an event a few years ago that concerns me greatly. Joffrey: Which one? Tywin: I heard about an incident with a cat where you cut it open. I'd like to hear why you did it. Joffrey: I just wanted to see the kittens, I thought they were inside waiting to come out. Tywin sighs in relief. For a moment, he'd worried that Joffrey was another Aerys, but instead he simply didn't understand empathy or didn't possess certain social awarenesses. He could work with something like that. Tywin: All right, Jaime tells me you like Syvasse, and you're quite talented. Shall we play a game? Joffrey nods eagerly and Tywin produces a silver and gold set. As they play, Tywin is impressed by Joffrey's creativity. He isn't able to beat Tywin, but he's talented and observant enough to at least etch out a few minor but costly victories. Tywin likes what he sees, and leverages Joffrey's competitive instincts to hone him for politics as well as military strategy. When the old lion outlines politics as a Syvasse game with real people, Joffrey takes to it very well. There are some things about Joffrey that concern Tywin, the fact that he doesn't seem to feel normal emotions, often only smiling as if he knows intellectually that he needs to do it. And when he does, it doesn't reach his eyes. And periodically, he finds Joffrey glancing at small animals with a hungry expression in his green eyes. Finally, the time comes that Joffrey needs to return to King's Landing. Tywin: I'm proud of you, Grandson. I look forward to seeing your progress. Joffrey: Thank you, Grandfather. When I'm king, I shall make you my hand. Tywin: Don't get too ahead of yourself, but if you wish to bestow that on me, I will not refuse. When Joffrey comes to King's Landing, he actually sits in on the Small Council meetings, carefully watching each member with clinical eyes. As the prince does, he starts seeing patterns. His father is behaving recklessly with money, but the expenses don't add up. However, when he brings his concerns up to Robert, the king waves him off. Robert: You're thinking too much like your miserly grandfather, Joffrey. We're all right. However, Joffrey doesn't let it go and actually looks through the books. When he does, he finds even more discrepancies, employees that don't exist, funds funnelled into privately owned businesses. Joffrey: So, Lord Baelish is stealing money, and Lord Varys didn't know about it or he didn't say anything. And Jon Arryn missed this. How could he allow this kind of waste? #gameofthrones #gameofthroneswhatif #whatif
