We continue our sermon series through the Gospel of John, “WordTalk.” In this second message, we turn to John 1:6–13 and watch the scene shift from eternity to history — from the eternal Word to a man sent from God. There was a man sent from God, whose name was John. John the Baptist is introduced not as the Light, but as a witness to the Light. His role was not to draw attention to himself, but to point entirely to Christ. And through his testimony, we begin to see how humanity responds when the Light enters the world. The Light shines — yet the world does not know Him. He comes to His own — yet His own do not receive Him. There is rejection, not because the Light is unclear, but because darkness resists it. And yet there is hope. To all who did receive Him, who believed in His name, He gave the right to become children of God — born not of human will, but of God. Salvation is not self-generated. It is sovereign grace. In this message, we look at: • What it means to bear witness to the Light • Why the world rejects Christ • The tragedy of unbelief • The glory of adoption and the new birth The Light has come into the world. The question is not whether He shines — the question is whether we will receive Him. 📖 Text: John 1:6–13 🏛 Christ Church of Mansfield 🎙 Sermon Series: WordTalk
