Hi everyone! I have yet another diy video for you. I am going to show you how to make your very own fancy shedding tool! This seems to be a newer style of shedding blade to use on your horse. There are several different brands of these, and they looked really interesting. But I wasn't too excited to plunk down $20.00 if I could make this myself, so that is what I did. I actually ended up making 3 of these little shedding brushes because they were so easy! If you want to make one yourself you will need: 1 x 1 piece of wood hack saw blade glue paint or spray paint sand paper hand saw First, you will want to cut or snap the hack saw blade to the size you want it to be. I used a tin snips to cut my blades so I could make them the size I wanted them to be. Then I cut the 1 x 1 wood so that it was a little bit longer than my blade. Then I secured the block of wood with a clamp and used my hand saw to carefully saw a groove into the center of the 1x1 wood. I kept checking the depth of the groove with the hack saw blade. And once that was done, I sanded the wood with my orbital sander. Once I had the wood sanded smooth, I then painted the wood block. For this example, I used purple spray paint, because I had it around. After the paint was dry, I put some glue on both sides of the blade, and inserted it into the groove on the wood block. After it dried, I put on a couple of coats of sealer, and then my shedding brush block is ready to be used! The total cost for this project to make one shedding brush tool was about $0.80! A lot cheaper than $20.00, and I like the way the wood fits into my hand. When using a tool like this on your horse, do not use it over bony prominence's. You want to use a sweeping motion with the block. Do not move it like you would a saw, because this is a blade, and it could cut your horse, so be careful when using this. I did make a smaller one too, to use on the long hair on the back of my horse's legs, but again, you don't want to push too hard, or go over areas where there is not much under the skin, don't cut your horse!!! If you want to read how I did this, I wrote about it on my website Budget Equestrian. http://www.budgetequestrian.com/ And I am super excited to let you all know something big is coming to my website...... If you have been following my diy projects on YouTube, I decided to write down all of my projects, and put them into books!
