Chances are most people would rather sit through a pixelated low res video with clear and clean audio than a super high res picture and bad audio. Therefore, for me, it's one of the biggest things I focus on now in my professional work (and I've still got a lot to learn!). The Panasonic DMW-XLR1 is a fantastic product for any Panasonic Lumix user, and allows you to get clean audio straight out of camera. Most audio geeks would rather use XLR since the connection is shielded and more reliable compared to a 3.5mm jack connection, and of course - XLR microphones are of a much higher quality. I've been using the Tascam DR60mkii external recorder with the Rode NTG4+ microphone for the last 6/7 months and I really like this set up. It's given me great results with little effort involved. HOWEVER, the Panasonic DMW-XLR1 goes one step further and simplifies the entire process by giving you the audio feed straight to the video file, meaning there's no syncing in post production and ultimately saving me time. I actually think the audio coming out of the DMW-XLR 1 is on par with the Tascam DR60 which is fantastic because it means I'm not compromising on quality and getting a more efficient workflow.
