IT’S THE SAME OLD DREAM, The Holidays (Unreleased Robbee) 1961 Here’s another really great cover song from my music collection. There were a number of vocal groups who performed and recorded using the name The Holidays. This Holidays group hailed from Pittsburgh, PA. Group members were Raymond Lancianese (lead), Barbara “Jo” Lippzer, Charlie Hatfield, Frank Gori and Franny Grisnik. They started as Little Ray & The Velvedears and added a female to their group in 1960, changing their name to The Holidays. The Holidays have recorded some really great songs in somewhat the same style as the more famous singing group from Pittsburgh, “The Skyliners.” here are two other songs by The Holidays that I have uploaded on my YouTube Channel: “MISS YOU/PRETEND” (Robbee #103) 1960 “ONE LITTLE KISS/ MY GIRL” (Nix #537) 1961 “IT’S THE SAME OLD DREAM” was written by world-renown, Grammy Award winning and 1972 Songwriters Hall Of Fame inductees Sammy Cahn and Jule Styne. As masterful composers/lyricists/collaborators, they have more than 2,500 songs to their credit, many of which are the most endeared pop songs and show tunes we all know today. Frank Sinatra recorded over 80 of Cahn’s songs. Styne worked for 20th Century Fox and Paramount Pictures collaborating with other talents to give us such great songs as “TIME AFTER TIME”, "DIAMONDS ARE A GIRL'S BEST FRIEND" and "THREE COINS IN THE FOUNTAIN." “IT’S THE SAME OLD DREAM” was written for the M-G-M motion picture “It Happened In Brooklyn” which starred Frank Sinatra, Peter Lawford, Kathryn Grayson and Jimmy Durante. It was performed on screen by Sinatra and 4 teenagers but the uncredited group singing on the soundtrack is ‘The Starlighters’. They performed on many movie soundtracks and were also known as Six Hits And A Miss, Five Hits And A Miss & Four Hits And A Miss. They have also backed Jo Stafford. (Andy Williams was a member of the group of Six Hits And A Miss) “IT’S THE SAME OLD DREAM” was first released on 78 rpm March 17, 1947 (6 days after the premier of “It Happened In Brooklyn” and just before the movie’s release in April 1947) by Frank Sinatra (Columbia #32788) backed by ‘Four Hits And A Miss’. Some other artists who have covered it are The Pied Pipers, Artie Shaw and Tommy Dorsey. Enjoy this really great cover song “IT’S THE SAME OLD DREAM” by another one of Pittsburgh’s finest, “The Holidays” With Raymond Lancianese singing lead!
