An event celebrating the legacy of Manchester-born Sir Harold Evans (1928-2020), legendary editor, journalist and author. As editor of The Sunday Times, Harry Evans set the gold standard for investigative journalism, pursing stories over many years and leaving no stone uncovered. In 1977 David Holden, a Sunday Times foreign correspondent, was murdered in Cairo a mystery which puzzled Sir Harry till the end of his life. After almost half a century the mystery of his assassination was finally solved by the journalists Peter Gillman and Emanuele Midolo. Gillman, a member of the original Insight team, sent by Evans to Cairo, joined forces with Midolo, a young investigative Sunday Times journalist and together they uncovered an epic tale of intrigue, betrayal, journalism and spying. This event celebrates the arrival of the Sir Harold Evans Papers at the John Rylands Library and will be chaired by Joshi Herrmann, Editor of The Mill.
