Lough Neagh one of the biggest freshwater lakes in Europe is being poisoned by blue green algae caused by a build up of nutrients. The Northern Ireland Government is investing £35m in finding a cure and have already spent nearly half a million giving five companies £90,000 each to help them develop their solutions. The Department of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs have completely ignored an existing solution developed and already successful in South Africa. The company who invented it and manufactures it for use around the world is called Bioaire. The machine costs around £30,000. Ten of these machines could already be working away in Lough Neagh taking away the nutrients and oxygenating the water for a total of £300,000 - a fraction of the £35 million the Government has set aside for a solution. In this mini documentary, we look at the way Northern Ireland is badly mismanaged, how it wastes billions of pounds and how everyt major project it embarks on comes in years late and millions over budget. Perhaps this is why there isn't enough money for health, policing, education, agriculture and infrastructure like the roads.
