Treasure State Remnants

Since 1991, Missoula photographer Lee Silliman has been capturing the fading remnants of Montana’s numerous mining camps and other historical relics dating from the late 1880s and early 1900s. Since their abandonment, the inexorable forces of elemental decay have taken their toll, leaving poignant and artful reminders of our predecessors’ lives, hopes, and dreams. Silliman will shares images of familiar ghost towns such as Bannack and Garnet, as well as many lesser known communities of the past. In addition he also focuses upon relics such as gold dredges, sheepherders’ rock cairns, beehive charcoal kilns, and poignant cemetery monuments. (Presence of the Past Program Series, April 21, 2016)
