Buchenwald is German for "beechwood forest'' and Buchenwald Grumsin is located in the north-east direction of Berlin. It’s a fascinating landscape which changes from extensive forest to open land, and from deep valleys to prominent peaks. It was great to get into nature as Autumn firmly sets in. You can’t beat hiking as the leaves start to change colour and what made this even more special, is that this beech forest has remained completely undisturbed for 30 years. Subscribe to Ben In Berlin: https://bit.ly/33HHioQ Grumsin is a protected area of ancient natural lowland beech forest on Ice Age sand. Historical research shows that the forests of Grumsin have been preserved almost in their entirety for several hundred years. In the former German Democratic Republic, the site was a government-owned hunting ground. The restricted access benefited numerous rare species of fauna that are sensitive to disruption. Since 1990, Grumsin has been a significant element at the core of the UNESCO Biosphere Reserve Schorfheide-Chorin. Buchenwald Grumsin is a great place to hike and you can choose between walks that last a couple of hours to eight hours. Nature can help us during this difficult time, but we must look after it. The sticks had fallen on the path before anyone thinks I chopped down a tree with a penknife.
