The Children's Literacy Summit brought together literacy leaders, advocates, librarians, educators, and caregivers across Greater Pittsburgh to champion early literacy and ignite a love of reading in young learners. The morning session opened with the question of "Whose Job is Children's Literacy?" led by Dr. Shallegra Moye of University of Pittsburgh - School of Education and challenged attendees to think boldly and collaboratively about how we can all support children's literacy within our community. A panel lineup of literacy advocates from different sectors moderated by Cynthia Battle founder of Taarifa Readers and Storytellers included: Dr. Collin Diedrich of Learning Disability Association of PA, Dr. Kyle Fahsel of Reading is Fundamental Pittsburgh, Erin Rudegeair of Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh, Dr. Caitlin Speak of University of Pittsburgh - Office of Child Development, Naomi York-Abduollah of Pittsburgh Public Schools, and parent Antonia Kimball explored the question of "Whose Job is Children's Literacy?" further and shared new perspectives and tools that people in all roles can use to promote children's literacy.
