Went to Steamtown for Railfest. It was my first time ever going to Steamtown & very much enjoyed it. Baldwin Locomotive Works 26 Built in March 1929, 26 is an 0-6-0 switcher with a slope back tender. 26 has 50 inch (1270 mm) drivers, a boiler pressure of 180 PSI (1.24 MPa) & a tractive effort of 29,375 Ibf (130.7 kN). 26 worked in Eddystone, Pennsylvania at Baldwin with sister locomotives 21 & 24. Several other engines like her were designed for the Atlantic Coast Line Railroad (ACL), Lehigh & New England Railroad (LNE) & General Steel Castings (GSI). In 1948 after World War 2 was over 26 was purchased by Jackson Iron & Steel Company (JI&S) of Jackson, Ohio becoming their number 3. She had a very late career, lasting possibly into the 1970's. It is unknown when she last operated for JI&S. In 1979 Jerry Jacobson saved the locomotive from being scraped by purchasing it. In 1983 it was moved to Grand Rapids, Ohio, then to the Mad River & NKP Railroad Museum in Bellevue, Ohio where it got painted & renumbered to Nickel Plate Road 17. In 1986 26 was traded for Canadian National 4-6-0 1551. Later on 1986 the Steamtown Foundation was taken over by the National Park Service & was renamed Steamtown National Historical Site (NHS). Upon arrival 26 got her original paint & number & started her first excursion service in the summer of 1990. She was retired from her first excursion life in 1999 & got a very long overhaul & returned in late 2015, to this day she is still running in her original number & lettering.
