For parts visit www.Importapart.com or email us at [email protected] Today we are tearing down a DESTROYED Volkswagen GTI 2.0L EA888 Engine from a 2010 Golf. Every week I publish a new engine teardown video dismantling some of the most blown up, complicated and otherwise unbelievably failed engines. Here are a few of my favorites: Audi S6 5.2L V10 • DEVASTATED Audi S6 5.2L V10 Engine Teardow... Dodge Ram 8.0L V10 • 8 LITERS OF DESTRUCTION! Dodge Ram V10 Eng... BMW N63 Hot-V Turbo V8 • BMW HOT-V N63 V8 Engine Destruction! Inter... Chevrolet Silverado 3.0L LM2 Duramax • WARRANTY REJECTED!? 2020 Silverado 1500 3.... My name is Eric and I own and run a full service auto dismantling business and part of our model includes dismantling bad engines to salvage the good parts from and recycle the rest. This engine was a core return from a salvage yard so I do not know the exact miles. This is a second generation of EA888 which while somewhat problematic, can easily be made to last as long as you don't do everything the owner of this GTi did. This engine is absolutely WRECKED. Virtually. no parts survived as the carnage was poorly confined, quite literally. The quality of the repairs seen, the type of parts used, and the overall condition just oozes incompetence and while the EA888 is complicated, this example is HARDLY something I would judge these by. As always I hope you enjoyed this teardown. I love all of the comments, feedback and even the criticism. Catch you on the next one! -Eric 00:00 Intro 03:04 Removing the spark plugs. Uh oh. Malice in the combustion palace! 04:24 Pulling the turbocharger coolant and oil lines, and unbolting the turbo 07:14 Unscrewing the oil filter.... THATS NOT GOOD 08:01 Unbolting the intake manifold, and trying to get it removed from the head 09:40 Inspecting the intake ports, GROSS 10:39 removing the upper timing cover 11:48 Unbolting the accessory bracket/oil cooler to 12:16 SO MUCH DAMAGE! 12:57 removing the water pump. Its damaged :( 13:46 The scope of the damage, NOPE we aren't supposed to see that yet 14:34 Unbolting the crank pulley 15:10 Removing the lower timing cover, someones been here! 16:10 The timing system has a TRAGEDY! Oh NO! 16:50 unbolting and removing the timing rails and carefully caring for them 18:05 clearing off the valve cover so we can get to crammin' 18:24 removing the HPFP and vacuum pump 18:54 Crammin' the cam caps, I mean valve cover bolts, loose 19:47 Peeling the valve cover off, and then removing the cams and cam gears 21:33 Cracking the head bolts loose. Why was one of these loose!? 22:21 Lifting the cylinder head off of the block, Something is GONE 23:23 SCIENCE 24:44 Draining the oil. Bring on more red flags! 26:56 Pulling the inside parts out from the outside, Yikes 27:32 Removing part of a balance shaft, that's not balanced. 29:05 unbolting the lower oil pan. UGH 30:59 Well, the lower pan is kind of off and the bigger the glob the worser the hack? 32:06 What kind of goodies do we have in the lower oil pan? 34:31 A look inside the upper pan, and the pickup is... uh, not vacant 35:04 unbolting the oil pump and disecting it for inspection 38:47 Unbolting and removing the upper oil pan and its got nuggets! 40:10 First peek inside the crankcase and its about as bad as you could expect 41:26 unbolting the remaining rod caps, and pushing the rods and pistons out of the block 42:08 Unbolting the removing the main caps so we can pull the crankshaft out 45:51 finagling the remnants of a balance shaft out of the block 46:51 Complete lower end inspection. Crankshaft, rod and main bearings, rods, pistons, block, balance shafts. ITS ALL JUNK 53:31 Summary
