In my last project, I built a custom fine feed clutch for the mini mill. It worked great: smooth, accurate, and easy to engage. But there was one problem: under heavy tool pressure, the clutch could slip unless I cranked it down hard with an Allen key. In this video, I’ll show you a simple but powerful upgrade: a spoked thumbwheel that builds leverage right into the clutch itself. No more weak tightening. No more digging around for the right Allen key. Just turn, lock, and cut with confidence. What you’ll see in this project: • Why the original clutch sometimes slips under load • How I added leverage directly to the thumbwheel • Drilling and tapping the brass wheel on the rotary table • Turning steel spokes with M7 threads • The final result: a clutch that locks tight with just your fingers If you’ve built the fine feed clutch already, this is an easy improvement you’ll definitely appreciate.
