How to repair the motorhome skylight for less than £50 when a new Remis version is £1500. Save money

The Remis skylight on our motorhome broke in spectacular fashion during our stay at Seadown Holiday Park, Charmouth and wouldn’t close using the winding mechanism. With heavy rain forecast that night, Malish made an emergency repair until we could figure out what to do. Van life is never short of experiences both good and bad. With a complete fix costing between £1,500 and £2,000, we decided to seek an alternative solution. This we are told is a common failure when the gearbox in the skylight stripped itself and as the model is no longer available, we couldn’t simply replace like for like. After an epic fail on the first fix, it looked uncertain as to whether we might have to bite the bullet and shell out a couple of grand to make the repair.
