In the lead up to Christmas, I offered candidates and existing Members of Parliament standing for re election in March the opportunity to contact me if they wished to record a message to share with the community ahead of the South Australian election. Today, I was pleased to speak with Rod Keogh, an independent candidate for the seat of Flinders. Rod Keogh is the owner of EP Cruises, established in 2009 and operating out of Fowlers Bay on South Australia’s Eyre Peninsula. Through EP Cruises, Rod has built a respected local tourism business, offering dedicated whale watching experiences that allow visitors to get up close to Southern Right and Humpback Whales during their annual winter migration. Beyond business, Rod is deeply connected to the people and communities of the Flinders electorate. His commitment is to work alongside locals in towns, on farms, along the coast and throughout regional centres, and to do so openly, transparently and collaboratively. Rod believes decision making should involve genuine consultation with the community, not occur behind closed doors. If an issue impacts the community, people should be informed. If meetings are held, the outcomes should be shared. If there is a fight worth having, it should be faced together. This approach is not theoretical, it reflects how Rod has operated for years in business and community life, and how he intends to represent Flinders. Rod sees genuine independence not as a limitation, but as leverage. It provides the freedom to speak plainly, act honestly and put people ahead of politics, without being constrained by party agendas. He believes real strength comes from a united, informed and determined electorate, built on strong relationships and trust. Rod has expressed a strong determination to advocate for people and improve legislation and systems based on lived experience and real community needs, whether in business, health, affordable and accessible housing, services, child protection or broader systemic reform. He values consultation, listens to lived experience and understands the importance of being accessible and accountable to the community.
