Strategic Investments: leveraging EU funding for the digital transformation of hospital settings

EPACT ONLINE LAUNCH EVENT | 18 November 2025 This webinar built on EHMA’s paper “Funding the digital transformation of hospital medication management pathways” and explored how European funding instruments can support the digitalisation of hospitals’ medication management processes. The session provided a comprehensive overview of EU and country-level funding mechanisms, highlighting how these resources can be used to strengthen medication management pathways and foster sustainable, equitable and patient-centred healthcare. Speakers shared examples from Member States and regions that have successfully leveraged funding programmes to advance hospital digitalisation. Discussions also addressed how EU institutions can allocate more resources to health innovation and how national authorities can prioritise investment in digital infrastructure. The webinar emphasised the value of strengthening hospitals’ medication management pathways to improve the availability and accessibility of medicines, particularly during times of crisis. Through case studies and expert insights, the webinar illustrated how funding programmes directly contribute to digital transformation in hospitals and considered the long-term implications for National Competent Authorities, Ministries of Health, hospital managers and healthcare professionals in light of upcoming EU health policy and legislative developments.
