The European Alliance for Managing Severe Chronic Urinary Incontinence in Older Women in Nursing Homes (ALLIAX) hosted the policy event “Addressing urinary incontinence in older women in European nursing homes: towards dignified, sustainable, and equitable care” on 18 November 2025. This roundtable marked the release of ALLIAX’s white paper on urinary incontinence in older women living in nursing homes. The event brought attention to a widespread yet often overlooked health issue that significantly affects dignity, independence, and quality of life for Europe’s ageing female population, while also creating substantial economic and environmental challenges. The discussion brought together Members of the European Parliament, national representatives, health and care professionals, patient advocates, industry partners, and academic experts. Speakers explored evidence-based approaches to improving urinary incontinence management in nursing homes and long-term care settings, highlighting the urgent need for coordinated EU-level action. Key themes included patient-centred care, workforce training, and sustainable innovation. Expert insights emphasised the importance of tailored measures to improve older women’s health outcomes, protect the wellbeing of care staff, and reduce environmental waste associated with current continence management practices.
