►Take my 7-DAY MARTIAL ARTS CHALLENGE! http://www.senseiando.com/updates/ I've seen lots of martial arts students lose control while training. They scream, throw up, walk out, or even cry. Is having a breakdown like that stupid or embarrassing? NO! Losing control is an important moment because it only happens when someone pushes past a limit. When their best isn’t good enough. So, when that happens, here’s my advice— don’t think of it as a breakdown, think of it as breakthrough. Screaming, puking, crying are not moments of failure... they are moments of success! These are the moments when you've broken out of your comfort zone and stepped into new territory. Which is the whole point of training! You don't train to be the same, do you? NO! You train in the martial arts to be tougher, stronger, and wiser. And the only way that can happen is to push to and through your limits. Which is why I say, if you’re not crying, you’re not trying! Seriously... you shouldn't always be comfortable when you train. You shouldn't always win, either! What’s the point of changing into your uniform if you’re not ready to change yourself? The goal of training is to reveal your weaknesses and bad habits so you can build a better you. The only way to do that is to put yourself under pressure. To keep pushing until you lose control. Learning doesn't always feel good... which is why they’re called growing pains. So, to be your best, step one is to push yourself until you lose control. Step two, is to take control again. You take control by making a decision to either quit or get back to work. If you choose to quit, be honest with yourself about why. Don’t blame anybody. Don’t make excuses. If you weren’t smart enough or tough enough, just say it. Don’t lie about the why. If you choose to get back to work, then get busy asking questions and trying new moves. Keep practicing until you set a new limit. Then put it to the test until you lose control again. Repeat those two steps over and over. That's how you'll become the best you can be.
