I Dropped my New Harley Christmas Eve with a Pillion! Heritage Softail Classic 114 #motorcycle #harleydavidson #motovlog Sigh. It took only 3 days and about 350 miles before I dropped this beautiful girl...with a passenger! Thankfully, aside from a few bumps and bruises, we're fine. Amazingly, the bike (now named "Hildegard") is fine aside from some incredibly minor scratches. By far the most serious casualty was my ego. However, I do strive to learn, improve, and hopefully avoid making the same mistake(s) going forward. I see this incident as a "love tap" that left both of us a little sore and me with a little less cash. In the video, I present the bike's damage, the location (via Google Maps Street View) and intentions/results. But the bigger question is "why?" To answer that, I draw not only on my personal and professional experiences, but also from the MSF Basic Course we both recently attended. It's pretty simple, and something we all (should) know but may not want to admit: attitudes and perceptions. This was totally and completely preventable. I should've taken a better route to begin with. Even with this route, I should've PLANNED on a full stop with both feet down. I did manage to do a few things right. Earlier that day I did some low-speed work in a parking lot. Not a ton, but I did the slow race, U-turns, figure 8's, and slaloms. We were both wearing full gear with the exception of her gloves. I offered another pair of mine, but she declined. I should've insisted. I guess we truly learn more from our mistakes than anything else. TWD
