The U.S. military was seen operating in Puerto Rico on Saturday (December 20), with a U.S. Air Force C-17 Globemaster III aircraft taking off from Mercedita Airport in Ponce. Separately, a U.S. Navy guided-missile destroyer, the USS Thomas Hudner, departed from the Port of the Americas on Puerto Rico’s southern coast. The Trump administration has sent thousands of troops to the Caribbean, along with an aircraft carrier, warships and fighter jets, carried out strikes against suspected drug vessels in the region, seized a sanctioned oil tanker off the coast of Venezuela, and declared a "blockade" of all sanctioned oil tankers entering and leaving Venezuela.
