April 26, 1991 Kansas Tornado Video Compilation

This compilation of tornado videos was recorded on Friday, April 26, 1991, the day of a widespread tornado outbreak across the Central Plains in the United States. Numerous videotapes were recorded by residents and storm chasers alike, a few of which are included in this 45 minute presentation. Where I was familiar with the video source, names are included in those instances. Most of this sequence shows the progression of the Wichita/Andover, Kansas F5 tornado starting with video by meteorologist and storm chaser Jon Davies. As these videos are sourced from a VHS multi-generational copy from 1991 shared amongst National Weather Service forecast offices, the quality has significantly deteriorated over time. Some videos are better than others, while I trimmed out entire sections where video/audio quality had degraded substantially. The final tornado video on this sequence was recorded by a resident near Wellington, Kansas of a large F4 tornado that remained primarily over open terrain. This was between two other supercell thunderstorms that produced violent tornadoes in North-Central Oklahoma (Billings/Red Rock) and South-Central Kansas (Wichita/Andover).
