Join us as we explore the abandoned Old Red Iron Bridge, a famous landmark for urbex enthuaiasts in Waterford, Ireland! 🌉🚂 Once a vital railway crossing over the River Suir, the Old Red Iron Bridge carried trains in and out of Waterford for nearly a century before being abandoned in the mid-1990s. Built in 1906, the bridge was part of the Great Southern & Western Railway line. For decades it served as a key transport link, but when the line closed in 1995, the bridge was left unused. In 2003, the central span was removed and placed on the riverbank, where it still rests today as a reminder of this landmark’s history. The Old Red Iron Bridge remains one of Waterford’s most recognisable abandoned structures. From the north side of the River Suir, it can be seen as you enter the city. For those interested in urban exploration and industrial heritage in Ireland, the Old Red Iron Bridge is a striking reminder of Waterford’s past. The south side of the river near the Waterford Greenway offers the best views of its iron framework, still standing strong after more than 100 years. 🏚️ Read the full story and see more photos on our blog: https://curiousabandoned.com/old-red-... #waterford #ireland #urbanexploration #urbex #abandoned ________________________________ Welcome to Curious Abandoned! 🧭 I'm fascinated with abandoned places and love exploring whenever I come across one.
