They have already paid over ₹4,000 crore in compensation cess and estimate that even after heavy discounting, more than ₹2,000 crore worth of cess credit will remain stuck. Dealers of brands like Mahindra and BMW alone have paid hundreds of crores in cess, which is why they are aggressively pushing sales with big discounts to liquidate stock before the GST transition. AMID CONCERNS the industry may not fully transmit the benefits of the GST rate cuts to end-consumers, the Revenue Department under the Union Ministry of Finance has asked its officers in the field to compile monthly data reports on price change of commodities pre and post-GST rate rationalisation.
