We’re Back, Baby (in tow)! Introducing Henry to the Appalachian Trail for his First Hike!

I finally received the blessing from my doctor and physical therapist to begin hiking (and running) again! I knew that once I got back on a trail, it would have to be with Henry, and it would have to be the Appalachian Trail. I have to start my son off right! Max Patch, just inside the NC border, has been inaccessible to me since Hurricane Helene due to road closures, but with the reopening of I-40, I was finally able to get there! The last time I stood on Max Patch was in 2023 when I was thru hiking the AT! It was initially socked in, but by the time I finished a little nostalgic side quest on the AT and returned to the summit loop, the clouds had lifted to reveal a beautiful view! I sat and snacked and nursed Henry on the bald (I had the whole place to myself) before finishing the summit loop and heading home.
