In order to know what a 21st century virtuous woman should be, we can examine what ancient virtuous women were and then extrapolate the timeless principle they represent. A close study of Proverbs 31:10-31 shows the ancient virtuous woman to be a: • Priceless Woman (Proverbs 31:10) • Profitable Wife (Proverbs 31:11,12) • Productive Worker (Proverbs 31:13-29) • Pacesetting Wonder (Proverbs 31:30,31) The modern virtuous woman can be all this and more. We can find the 21st century virtuous woman in all walks of life – single or married, follower or leader, home maker or worker, etc. In particular, the 21st century virtuous woman should be: • Marriageable With Chaste Character • Mother With Comforting Care • Model With Conservative Comportment • Minister With Compelling Compassion 1) MARRIAGEABLE WITH CHASTE CHARACTER: 👇 Proverbs 31:10,30,11,12; 18:22; 19:14; Genesis 2:18-25; 1 Peter 3:1-6; Psalm 144:12; 45:13; 1 Timothy 2:9; The Proverbs 31 virtuous woman is every man’s dream of a wife. Which man will not be attracted to such a woman? The 21st century virtuous woman even if presently single and unmarried should possess these endearing qualities. She should be marriageable with these godly qualities. She should be a woman that fears the Lord – saved and redeemed (Proverbs 31:30). Can God be happy to take your hand like Eve looking for an Adam for you? (Genesis 2:18-25). Are you like the virtuous women of old? (1 Peter 3:1-6). Are you like a king’s daughter glorious within and without? (Psalm 144:12; 45:13). 2) MOTHER WITH COMFORTING CARE: 👇 Proverbs 31:15,18,19,21,22,27-29; Proverbs 22:6; Judges 4:4-9; 5:7; 2 Timothy 1:5; Luke 2:42-52; Exodus 2:1-10 The Proverbs 31 virtuous woman was married. As a wife, she was the crown of her husband who is secure in her love and has become an object of honour in the community (Proverbs 31:11,12,23). As a mother, her household is adequately furnished and provided for (Proverbs 31:15,18,19,21,22,27-29). There is no lack. She is extremely organised in the way she runs her household. There are no surprises. She stocks her household with foresight (Proverbs 31:18). The 21st century woman if married should be a mother with comforting care. The husband and the children are satisfied and fulfilled in her comfort (Proverbs 31:11,28). A manager with consistent creativity that spans many fields – agriculture (Proverbs 31:16), business (Proverbs 31:14,16,24), textiles (Proverbs 31:13,19,22,24). She is extremely versatile and creative, industrious and diligent, prudent and highly productive. 3) MODEL WITH CONSERVATIVE COMPORTMENT: 👇 Proverbs 31:30; Exodus 28:42,43; 1 Timothy 2:9; 1 Peter 3:1-6; 2 Corinthians 10:7,17; Matthew 5:13-16; Titus 3:8 The world has its models who do their cat walks and define what is meant to be acceptable fashion. The church must have her models who do the grace walk and define what is acceptable behaviour and comportment. Models are standard bearers. Christian models are not known by their beauty but by their belief for the scripture says beauty is vain. Christian models are not celebrated because of their fashion but because of their faith. They do not glory in external garment but in inward grace – favour and charm is deceitful but a woman that fears the Lord, she shall be praised (Proverbs 31:30). Christian models do not attract attention by flashing the flesh. They don’t generate applause by infatuation. Genuine appreciation and celebration comes through godly comportment and graceful walk. Every Christian woman is called to be a Christian model – a standard bearer for Christ. Models in the World Models in the Church Character Haughty Isaiah 3:16-26; Humble 1 Peter 3:1,2; Dressing Attire of an harlot Isaiah 3:16-26; Proverbs 7:10-27 Robe of righteousness Exodus - 28:42,43; 1 Timothy 2:9 Glorying External in Designer Clothes Matthew 6:25-34; Philippians 3:17-19 Internal in Divine Endowment 1 Peter 3:3-6; 2 Corinthians 10:7,17 There is no place for miniskirts, topless or tight fitted skirts and other such in scriptural dressing (Exodus 28:42,43). People must see our good works (not good looks) and glorify our Father in heaven (Matthew 5:13-16; Titus 3:8). 4) MINISTER WITH COMPELLING COMPASSION: 👇 Proverbs 31:20; 15:1,2; Mark 9:22; Jude 22; 2 Corinthians 5:18-21; Isaiah 50:4,5; Colossians 4:6; 1 Peter 3:15 Every Christian woman is meant to be a minister. God has committed to us the ministry and the word of reconciliation. Truly we are ambassadors for Christ (2 Corinthians 5:18-21). The virtuous woman can have compassion on the needy – physical or spiritual (Proverbs 31:20; Mark 9:22; Jude 22). Evangelism is every believer’s ministry (Matthew 28:18-20; Mark 16:15-20; Luke 24:44-48; John 20:21; Acts 1:8). She is a confidant to her husband who safely trusts and confides in her and a counsellor to her children who value her wise advice (Proverbs 31:11,28). She is christian counsellor and mentor.
