a hand drawn map from over 100 years ago shows what they called the ancient road heading right up and over the mountains. This part of New Hampshire has a lot of unfound old places and mystery to them when you realize where these old home sites were. New England has a lot of history and some of it contradicts itself with saying who was where first. The rock walls that go right across some of the old roads or the rock walls that were removed and opened up to make the old roads make no sense at times. I have been exploring this area for years reading the landscape, finding cellar holes and trying to find the rest of this abandoned road. Call it a cart path, wagon trail or whatever it was a way for people to travel through these hills and mountains. I brought my Fisher F19 metal detector and used it to see that there was activity up here with a lot of nail iron in the ground as well as trash left behind from the loggers of the 1930s. I do find bits and pieces of this ancient road with rock lined shoulders and then it just dis appears and then shows up again hundreds of feet aways. A lot of it has been dissolved by the runoff of water and who knows how old it actually is.
