This song is #3 in my new series, “Reimagining Cover Songs”. Tim Hardin was one of my early musical influences. “Reason to Believe” and, of course, “If I Were a Carpenter” were two of his early tunes that I learned when they were first released. “If I Were a Carpenter” is one of the most iconic folk/pop songs ever written. As testament to the song’s quality and universality, it has been covered by over 100 famous artists including Bobby Darin, Bob Dylan, Bob Seger, Joan Baez, Johnny Cash, The Four Tops, Robert Plant, Willie Nelson, Sheryl Crow, Leon Russel, Leslie West, Dolly Parton, Flatt and Scruggs, and Leonard Nimoy! For my take I decided to use my 2017 Martin D-12-28, with a drop D tuning. Adding some open sus chords really brings out the beauty of this song - and this amazing Martin guitar! Enjoy! Thomas
